Sean Working on Guitar

Does your guitar need some work?

STGuitarworks is an independently run guitar workshop based in Ottawa, Ontario. Owned and operated by luthier Sean Thompson. Sean spent two years with the Godin Guitar Company, from November 2004 to October 2006, at their head office in Baie D'Urfé, Montreal West Island, as the head of their repair department. There Sean did all warranty and non-warranty repairs. Sean was trained in two of the Godin Guitar Companys' factories in La Patrie, QC and Princeville, QC.

Sean was instructed on some of the finer points of guitar construction and repair by Robert Godin himself, who is known for producing a wide range of instruments that combine superior tonality with the most innovative technology.

STGuitarworks is a certified Warranty Repair Center for Godin Guitars, Seagull, Art & Lutherie, Simon & Patrick, Norman and LaPatrie Guitars

Tired of the same old factory guitars?

After college, Sean packed up and moved to Vancouver Island. There he had the privilege of attending the Masters Program at the Summit School of Guitar Building and Repair in Qualicum, British Columbia (owned and operated by luthiers Mike Jarvis and Sigmund Johannessen). There he learned step by step, from blueprint to final set-up, how to construct electric, acoustic and arch-top guitars.

He learned construction techniques from the old world using hand tools to the modern industrial techniques using complicated machinery. One month was spent in Umeå, Sweden, training under luthier Leif Jakobsson, proprietor of Leif's Guitarworks.

Sean is a member of the Guild of American Luthiers and has attended their conventions in 2004, 2006 and 2008. The Guild of American Luthiers conventions host the most experienced in guitar construction and repair, as well as multiple seminars on the most advanced techniques globally.

Sean now runs his own workshop in Ottawa West. There he does set-ups, repairs, restorations and custom alterations.
